Whats going on with that bucket, cb?
Whats going on with that bucket, cb?
tiss my upside down tomatoe plant :D
you think them there roots will grow up towards the sun G ?
gorilla
05-14-2006, 09:34 AM
well it's not as if roots CANT grow up, they do when we plant them in buckets right?
Hm.
They could quite possible all just gather and lump at the bottom too.
If the plant wants to live they better grow upwards, huh?
My vote is they will, CB. Plants like to live.
Let me know though, now my brain is going. :p
edit: God this is driving me nuts. Haha. After some thinking, i'm led to believe the plants gonna try its hardest to be higher than the roots. That seems natural to me. Maybe the roots will only grow "upwards", when they need to. I'm confused as to how you even got the plant in the to start with. You didn't start from seed, right? Haha.
You better get back to me quick on this one.

say G-mang
pretty sure the plant wont try to grow above the roots but pretty sure the sun will pull the plant upwards...
root's will grow where ever they can up down sideways and in circles . in this case i'm 100% sure the roots will grow up and out the top of the bucket ;)
as for get'n it in the bucket thats simple as you can see by the pic
pretty sure this cant be done from seed as i have tried  put a MJ seed in soil upside down with tap root face'n up and see what happens

You learn a little every day! When those roots show up top, I want another picture CB. :P
My garden? Mine's not nearly as impressive, it's more or less just a bunch of potted plants sitting out on my lawn. Just a variety of veggies, one of each of a few different kinds of plants. First year i've tried this so i'm doing it more for the fun.
Got a plant called an "Echeveria" which is way cool. it's a succulent. Google Echeveria and in the Image search you can see tons of really awesome pictures.
I'll take a pic and throw it up here for the hell of it in a few days. A few mysterious beans are sprouting too. Hm.. :p

might have to try the upside down thing

say fing,
when i do tomatoes like this i just let them grow how ever but when i was testing this in my grow room with MJ I turned my grow room upside down
wanted to make the plant grow strait down like with light on the floor but it wasnt doing it without the aid of weights.... i had to chop in veg do to health reason so never finished the project (will someday tho)
no advice really for ya bro... just plant, hang bucket and carry on as normal...
oh wait... when ya water or feed tilt bucket so excess doesnt run down the plant or adjust the amount of water to the point it allmost drains but not quit ;)
give it a try and see what happens

say all,
hows the veggies come'n along?.... got hit with some heavy rain here but seems all is on the rebound even the weeds

07-13-2006, 03:52 PM
Hey lady.
Google "Echeveria". That's what type of plant that is, and that's how it's actually spelled. There are a ton of different types and they are common in gardening stores and gardening departments in homedepot and such.
Just tough to find one they haven't manicured to look pretty and have like 15 shoved in a pot.
The whole plant is like one big flower, And it creates those pretty pink flowers. From the bottom of the stem though, It's forming whole new plants. Like sideshoots of an MJ plant, these will look like the whole plant itself. Theres like 5 new ones forming now and they're really bunched together.
Got a feeling in a year or two it's going to be a really kickass plant.

15 gallon, I ordered them special so they are kinda short and wide compared to a "normal" 15 gal container. I got these cool trays with wheels on them for under each one too.
Someday I'll actually use them for what I intended heh heh...
Yeah bro I wasn't getting any tood or nuthin' I was just wonderin' why you thought I said that if it wasn't true LoL :D
There's already like ...I dunno but LOTS of tomatoes on that sucker, I just hope I put in enough bonemeal to "power" all that fruit! ;)

i have some houseplants, only in pots because i dont have a place for a garden until next year. i feed most of these herbs to my pet afghan tortoise, hes a cool little shit, his name is chomper.
first one is thyme, rosemary, aloe, and some marigolds that havent bloomed
second is a basil that i topped and lst'd late in its life, im trying to only let one branch bloom so i can use the rest. its his favorite food so im glad there is a lot of it lol
third is cinnamon basil that looks like it needs a transplant and was knocked over by rain earlier.
forth is chomper ;)
its not much but i cant grow mj now and i enjoy having some plant to actually grow :D

Hahahaha yep yep, they are all "chompers" heh heh :D he used to raid my garden bigtime, chomped on everything!
Yeah amigo, in my opinion, if you really wanna experience a KILLER tomato go for the heirlooms! "Mostly" they are my faves for different stuff but I like a few hybrids too!
I LOVE Brandywines for sandwiches, like ham and stuff WoW, on rye bread, the flavores are just incredible!
On burgers I love good ol' Beefstake and for a BLT it's Romas all the way if I have my choice!
Spaghetti sauces and other tomato sauces I like Tomatillos, Black Russian, Big Boy, Beefstake and Romas if I have them available! Mmmmmmmm, my mouth is watering just talking about them heh heh :)

 That's a hella tomato plant CB LoL!
Yeah hydro works GREAT outdoors amigo, just gotta shield the roots so they don't get hit with any sunlight, never have the nutrient solution exposed to sunlight, flush with water at the end (distilled IMO) and they taste greeeeat!
This year is my really first tomato grow where I am actually trying to stay 100% organics and man O man my roots are out of control hahahaha, big roots = big fruit!
 ...I was rolling a bunch of hydro equipment into an apartment once many years ago, and it was looking rather "odd" heh heh, so I built this big ol' tiered hydro (ABS 4") system out on my deck and grew all kinda stuff like tomatoes, peppers, strwberries.... Anyways, everything got so insane and big, beefstakes bigger than softballs, way bigger LoL, that my neighbors were all just flippin' on how cool it was, one of them called the news, they came to do an interview, ......well, needless to say I wanted to be lowprofile so I did the interview but moved out about 3 months later Hahahaha!
They never knew what was in the extra bedroom heh heh, yikes! Thank the cannagods for good venting into the bathrooom ventilation system hahahahahah :gthumb:

just lookin at the pic Stonin, I'd say they are prolly Chile Pequins about 2-3 inches long an about as big as yer pinky.
They are in the mild to medium range with habeneros at the hot end. Slightly sweet to tangy when they are dried. They can be nearly as hot as a jalepeno, but nowhere near a habenero.

oh you guys...if we are successful in finding about 20 acres I think I am going to have to try my hand at some veggies. In all the years I have been doing flowers I have never even grown a tomato! I do have some ornamental gourds growing this year though. Gourds are just about unheard of over here, and being American I love to have them at Halloween/Thanksgiving for fall decorating. (Boy doesn't that sound like a Grandmother thing to say :D ) Anyway, I have always made a trip to Amsterdam in September because they have gourds and Indian corn available (not to mention other goodies!). Always makes a good excuse for a trip over there :D

Thanks for the link Fing, may just have to try some termaters just for cover/odor/diversion out on the balcony this year.
Should be able to start right after the 1st of the year. I get mebbe a week or two of possible frost here at the foot of the Estrella Mountains, after that until early June are prime growing conditions for just about anything.
We see low temps right above freezing in late Jan early Feb then it warms up till we see low in the upper 90's in late June early July.
Haven't seen how cold it will get on the balcony but even a poly cold frame will be more than enough to keep the frost off.
soil is amend'd with lots of poop and seeds are in outside as well as in :)
hard'n off a few now for next week's X-plant
new spot for the corn and a few matoe's this year.....
what ya all got in your garden?
